Weeping Willow
Salix babylonica
The Weeping Willow is one of the most romantic, recognizable trees on earth — long, graceful branches cascade to the ground like a green curtain, swaying in the breeze. They're iconic around ponds, lakes, and streams. Extremely fast-growing (6-8 ft/year when young). The golden winter twigs are beautiful against a gray sky. Plant only where there's space and water.
Care Guide
Plant in full sun near water — they need consistently moist soil. Keep 50+ feet from buildings, septic systems, and water lines (aggressive roots seek moisture). Prune broken branches promptly — wood is brittle. Short-lived (30-50 years) but incredibly fast to mature size. Not for small properties.
