Astilbe brings feathery plume-like flowers to shade gardens where few other plants offer such color. The fluffy flower spikes come in pinks, reds, purples, whites, and peach — rising above fern-like foliage that's attractive all season. The dried flower heads persist through winter. Mass-planted, they create a stunning cottage-garden effect in shade.

Care Guide

Plant in partial shade with moist, humus-rich soil. Keep consistently moist — they crisp in drought. Mulch to retain moisture. Divide every 3-4 years when centers thin out. Leave dried flower heads for winter interest. Feed in spring with a balanced fertilizer. One of the best shade perennials.
