Rose of Sharon

Hibiscus syriacus

Rose of Sharon blooms when few other shrubs will — large, tropical-looking hibiscus flowers from July through October in blue, purple, pink, white, and red. 'Blue Chiffon' has true blue double flowers; 'White Pillar' is a narrow columnar form. Unlike tropical hibiscus, it's hardy to zone 5 and needs zero protection. One of the best late-season flowering shrubs.

Care Guide

Plant in full sun with any well-drained soil. Prune in late winter to shape and control size (blooms on new wood). Choose non-seeding cultivars like 'Azurri Satin' to prevent volunteer seedlings. Drought tolerant once established. Minimal pests. Can be trained as a small tree by removing lower branches.
