Garden Phlox
Phlox paniculata
Garden Phlox is a cottage garden essential — tall stems topped with large, fragrant flower clusters in every shade of pink, purple, and white from midsummer through early fall. It's one of the few tall perennials that flowers in the heat of summer. 'David' (white, mildew-resistant) and 'Laura' (purple with white eye) are top performers. Butterflies love it.
Care Guide
Plant in full sun with good air circulation (prevents mildew). Moist, well-drained soil. Thin stems in spring to 4-5 per clump for better airflow. Deadhead for extended bloom. Choose mildew-resistant cultivars. Divide every 3-4 years. Fertilize in spring.
