Mondo Grass
Ophiopogon japonicus
Mondo Grass is the refined, tidy alternative to liriope — narrower leaves, lower growth, and a cleaner look between stepping stones, along borders, and as a manicured edging plant. Dwarf mondo (2-3 inches tall) creates a miniature lawn effect without mowing. Standard mondo fills shade areas with dense, dark green texture year-round.
Care Guide
Plant in partial shade to sun. Space 4-6 inches apart for dwarf, 8-12 for standard. Water during establishment, then fairly drought tolerant. Mow standard mondo to 2 inches in late winter to refresh. Divide every 3-4 years. No fertilizer needed. Extremely low maintenance.
