Azalea

Rhododendron spp.

Azaleas deliver some of the most spectacular spring displays in gardening — entire shrubs covered in blooms so thick you can't see the leaves. Encore azaleas rebloom in fall, giving you two shows per year. They're the backbone of Southern gardens but grow well into zone 5. Nothing matches their spring impact.

Care Guide

Plant in acidic soil (pH 5.0-6.0) with morning sun and afternoon shade. Mulch with pine needles or pine bark. Water during dry spells — they have shallow roots. Don't plant too deep. Prune immediately after spring bloom. Fertilize with azalea/rhododendron food in spring.
