Blanket Flower
Gaillardia × grandiflora
Blanket Flower is a native wildflower turned garden superstar — daisy-like blooms in hot reds, oranges, and yellows with intricate banding patterns that look like Native American blanket designs. It blooms non-stop from early summer through fall in the hottest, driest conditions. 'Arizona Sun' and 'Mesa' series are outstanding performers.
Care Guide
Plant in full sun with lean, well-drained soil. Thrives in heat, drought, and poor soil — actually performs worse in rich, wet conditions. Deadhead for continuous bloom. Short-lived (2-3 years) but self-seeds freely. Don't fertilize. Cut back in spring. One of the best native perennials for hot, dry sites.
