Russian Sage
Perovskia atriplicifolia
Russian Sage creates an ethereal cloud of silvery foliage and lavender-blue flowers from midsummer through fall. It's drought-proof, deer-proof, and thrives in the worst soil — hot, dry, rocky, poor. The silvery stems provide excellent winter structure. One of the best plants for creating a Mediterranean feel in cold climates.
Care Guide
Plant in full sun with well-drained soil. Do NOT overwater or over-fertilize — lean conditions produce the best plants. Cut back to 6-12 inches in early spring when new growth appears. Stake if plants flop (usually means too much shade or water). No pests or diseases to speak of.
