Joe Pye Weed
Eutrochium purpureum
Joe Pye Weed is a native giant — massive plants topped with huge domed clusters of mauve-pink flowers that attract monarchs, swallowtails, and every other butterfly in the neighborhood. It's named after a Native American healer who used it medicinally. 'Gateway' (5 ft) is the best garden cultivar. The vanilla-scented foliage is a bonus.
